The new owners of this completely preserved mid-century home were excited to tackle a full remodel to update the home for their young, growing family, but they didn’t want to ruin the mid-century vibe.
They wanted to eliminate walls between the kitchen, living room and dining room, but we needed to be sensitive to the original post and beam construction. A massive beam spanning the ceiling of the main living space was revealed during demo, so it was quickly incorporated into the final design plan. The goal with all the selections was to stick to the true mid-century vibe, but ensure the new layout and all the functionality was updated for modern living. New lighting and plumbing fixtures, as well as tile selections stayed true to the mid-century vibe but feel completely fresh. The master suite was re-configured to provide a stunning master bathroom, and the kids/guest bathroom was given a whimsical touch of bright yellow tile.
Modernous completed the space with a full furniture plan that incorporated vintage, new mid-century and modern pieces, as well as custom pieces such as the 14-foot dining table! Bold pops of color and pattern were used alongside beautiful-but-neutral foundation pieces. Everything came together into a highly functioning home for a busy family!
